Good morning from chilly Vermont. Yesterday was Earth Day, so I celebrated by simplifying our house and filling our porch with things to pass on: a duplicate toaster, an unloved stuffed koala bear and a box of his friends, a bin of material for arts and crafts, a pile of clothing, a stack of binders, and a small box of tea treasures from my kitchen corner hutch.
Today the weather should turn fair. My daughter will set up our display of wares at the edge of our lawn near the road, and she’ll add an eye-catching sign that says FREE. Drivers do stop, and we get excited when we see someone taking a box or part of it. A new life and a new start for our underused belongings. When the last item goes, we’ll sit in our porch chairs (the ones we got for free along the side of someone else’s road) and admire the space around us, and the lilac buds just out and framing the windows. Happy times! How did you celebrate Earth Day?
